The launch of Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia in 2 days
In only 2 days, on Friday the 30th of June, within the framework of the Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia the event »Ljubljana is urban« (»Lublana je urbana«), will kick off, offering visitors over two days of the weekend, on June 30th and July 1st.
A variety of events during both day and night on 10 venues, with more than 30 different performers from Slovenia and abroad. In three segments (daytime events at various venues, the main concert stage on Congress Square as well as a series of so-called after-parties in several clubs in Ljubljana).
The shows on the main stage on Congress Square start on Friday afternoon with Slovenian musicians UBU (Introset) and Jamirko & Murat BEATTape, continuing with the performance of Frank Benbini (from Fun Lovin´ Criminals), followed by the performance of Jamirko with friends with the launch of the Festival’s in-house production, the music project Icon. On Saturday Ichisan (Slovenija), Jazzanova feat Paul Randolph (Germany) and Booka Shade (Germany) will heat up the Congress Square.
On Saturday, June 1st, Slovenia will join the celebration of International Reggae Day for the first time ever, in Park Tivoli. Performers like Roots in Session, Rockers Dub Master Sound System, Dr. Bancho and many others will ensure an attractive dancing afternoon.
During both festival days young Slovenian musicians and artists will present their work at Petkovšek embankment (Petkovškovo nabrežje), at the Central Station,
Žmavc and other venues. The Museum of Modern Art will hold a presentation of the project Slovenology. For the most tenacious visitors both days will offer a series of after-parties in the Club K4, Club Cirkus and at Metelkova, with performances by Tom Trago (Netherlands), 0 Phase (Great Britain), Mike
Vale, DJ Dey, Ichisan among many others.
The Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia sets a solid foundation of an attractive and competitive festival destination and has the aim of becoming one of the leading festivals in Central Europe over the next few years. Visitors will be able to experience the richness of contemporary trends in culture and creativity, ranging from electronic music, design, fashion and visual art to social awareness projects. This colourful experience is exactly what a modern tourist, the informed and digitalized "nomad" looks for; it will be complemented by the extremely diverse and pristine nature on one hand and the traditional, as well as culinary heritage on the other.
