Introducing the festival with Icon at KUD France Prešeren
As part of the »kickoff« project of the Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia which will occupy the streets of Ljubljana and Park Tivoli on June 30th and July 1st, the first warm-up event was held at KUD France Prešeren on Tuesday, 13.6.
At the casual gathering the assembled press and other public got to meet the local band ICON, who are part of the in-house production of the festival. The media representatives and others had a chance to enjoy the debut of the band’s original music and meet the band members, among them the Slovenian musician, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Denis Beganović (Areia, KayKay…) who contrived a collaboration with DJ Peter Vöröš and vocalist Sara Lah, and together they came up with an incredibly honest and fresh music project. Their eclectic sound plays with genres such as electronica, rock, punk, house, drum & bass, garage and deep ambiential music, and it’s full of real emotion that can be heard in their music as well as their lyrics. ICON, whose first album releases this year, will debut their freshman effort for the first time at the Festival of Urban Culture in Ljubljana on 30.6. at Congress Square.
After the performance, the organizers of the international Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia showcased their plans for the aforementioned project, which will take place on 10 stages: Congress Square and Park Tivoli will play host to Jazzanova (feat. Paul Randolph) and Booka Shade from Germany, Llorca from France and Frank from the legendary band Fun Lovin´ Criminals (United Kingdom), and spicing up the programme will be the Slovenian music project ICON - yes, the very same. The enticing international line-up will be further reinforced by various already established local artists such as Jamirko and Murat (JAMU), Ichisan, and Roots in Session Soundsystem, while part of Saturday’s programme will also be dedicated to the International Reggae Day. For the most tenacious visitors the nighttime programme will offer plenty of varied after parties with a mix of international and domestic performers such as Tom Trago (Netherlands) and Ø [PHASE] (United Kingdom).
