International Reggae Day
As part of the festival Ljubljana Calling - which is a part of the broader Festival of Urban Culture - there will be a celebration of the International Reggae Day on June 30th and July 1st, which is dedicated to the internationally celebrated Jamaican musical culture and its message. The celebration will mark the first time Ljubljana joins 35 other cities that celebrate the holiday annually the world over. The events will be held on two locations, an open-air venue in Park Tivoli and in the club atmosphere of KUD Channel Zero on Metelkova Street, and will feature over 30 artists. On day one, June 30th, Channel Zero will host artists Roots in Session Soundsystem, Rockers Dub Master Soundsystem and VJ Mesec. The next day, July 1st, brings the action to Park Tivoli with artists Roots In Session, Rockers Dub Master Soundsystem, Dr Bancho, Ohoroho Selektor, The Wild Citizen, Reggaemylitis Sound and LjubljanJah Vibes. Later on you can keep the party going back at Channel Zero while moving to the beats of roots, dancehall, dub, UK stepp, jungle and similar sounds. Admission to the event at Park Tivoli is free.
The goal of this programme is to promote themes of love, respect, acceptance, bridging cultural divisions and celebrating our differences. Beyond being a core pillar of reggae since its emergence, these values are essential in today’s society which is all too often dominated by hateful sentiments and selfishness.
