10 more days until the launch of the Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia
There are 10 more days before the Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia kicks off. Over the course of two days, June 30th and July 1st, the festival launch event »Ljubljana Calling« will offer its visitors a wide range of events on 10 venues, at which over 30 local and international artists will perform, chief among them Booka Shade, Frank Benbini (from Fun Lovin’ Criminals) and Jazzanova feat. Paul Randolph.
The festival will also showcase its in-house production, project ICON, which visitors will get a chance to see on the first day of the festival at its main stage on Congress Square. And finally, for the first time ever in Ljubljana, we will be celebrating the International Reggae Day, joining 35 other cities that celebrate the holiday annually the world over.
The festival is made up of three segments: the day events that will be held on various venues throughout Ljubljana, the main concert programme at Congress Square, and a series of after parties set in several of Ljubljana’s clubs. At Petkovškovo Nabrežje, Central Station, Žmauc, and other venues you’ll have a chance to see performances by young Slovenian artists and musicians, the Museum of Modern Art will hold a presentation of the project Slovenology, and at Park Tivoli we’ll be celebrating the International Reggae Day in the company of Roots in Session, Rockers Dub Master Sound System, Dr. Bancho, and many others.
The show on the main stage on Congress Square starts Friday afternoon with Slovenian musicians Jamirko&Murat BEATTape, continues with a performance by Frank Benbini (from Fun Lovin’ Criminals; United Kingdom), and closes with the launch of the Festival’s in-house production, the music project Icon. Heating up Congress Square on Saturday will be heavyweight after heavyweight: Ichisan (Slovenia), Jazzanova feat. Paul Randolph (Germany) and Booka Shade LIVE (Germany). This past week also saw a revision to the original programme of the Festival. After the unfortunate news of Llorca’s health issues he was forced to cancel his performance in Ljubljana and part of his European tour. We hope he is well and wish him a quick recovery.
For the most tenacious visitors the nighttime programme will offer plenty of varied after parties at CLUB K4, club Cirkus and on Metelkova Street, with a mix of international and Slovenian performers such as Tom Trago (Netherlands), Ø [PHASE] (United Kingdom), Mike Vale, DJ Dey, Ichisan and many others.
Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia has the goal of becoming one of the leading festivals in Central Europe in the next few years. The entire project stems from an integration of the potentials Slovenia has as a specific destination boasting distinctive urban cultural facilities in urban centers and extraordinary natural resources throughout its territory. Visitors will be able to experience the richness of contemporary trends in culture and creativity ranging from electronic music, design, fashion, and visual creation, to social awareness projects. This, for a modern tourist, an informed and digitized "nomad", tailor made colorful experience will be complemented by the extremely diverse and pristine nature & traditional as well as culinary heritage. Slovenia is a small country, essentially a large city with Ljubljana at its center, which can unlike larger spaces combine different experiences into a space and timewise manageable whole. Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia will set solid foundations for Slovenia as an attractive and competitive festival destination and encourage the emergence of a new & recognizable brand for Slovenia, which will appeal to tourists that are looking for dynamic and diverse experiences in a safe environment.
