We have put the first project of the Festival of urban culture and the event »Ljubljana is urban« behind us. It was organized during last weekend, on 30. 6. and 1. 7. at ten venues across the centre of Ljubljana offering 30 performers.

The first day of the festival and the performance on the main stage was interrupted by unusual monsoon weather, which had an extremely positive effect on the visit to the after parties in Ljubljana. On both days, around 8000 people visited the venues on each festival day, mostly foreign tourists, which was the main goal of the festival.

Milan Gregorn, creative executive producer: »Dear visitors to the first edition of the Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia, that was held on June 30th and July 1st at several locations across Ljubljana. We are so glad we could meet and tune-in to the same frequency. We are grateful for all positive responses and comments. Your attention and attendance encourages us to continue our planned path and we look forward to seeing you again. Despite the bad weather on the first night, we are sure a new festival was born on this weekend, with the big finale on Congress Square with Jazzanova feat. Paul Randolph and Booka Shade. We hope and wish you will continue to follow our future events and the different
types of urban adventures across Slovenia that we are planning in the future.«

Despite the bad weather on the first day, the project succeeded much better than expected, in the two days of the festival, visitors could see Frank Benbini (VB; from the group FLC), Jazzanova with Paul Randolph (Ger), Booka Shade (Ger), we celebrated International Reggae Day for the first time in Ljubljana, the Museum of Modern Art hosted a presentation of the book Slovenology by author Noah Charney. The streets of Ljubljana, full of tourists and locals throughout summer, echoed to the selected DJ programme during the day, and the main programme took place on the big venue in Congress Square. The night happening was charactered by a choice of excellent international and Slovenian DJs with many different styles, performing, among others, were Tom Trago (Netherlands), 0 Phase (GB), Mike Vale, DJ Dey and Ichisan. The festival provided culinary delights inspired by Ljubljana as well. Festival Street food corner took care of all visitors, so that nobody was hungry at the venue.

The Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia has set a goal to become one of the leading festivals in Central Europe over the next few years. The entire project stems from the integration
of the potential of Slovenia as a specific destination, which offers a distinctively urban culture offer in city centres and exceptional natural resources throughout the territory. Visitors will be able to experience the richness of contemporary trends in culture and creativity, ranging from electronic music, design, fashion and visual art to social awareness projects. This colourful experience is exactly what a modern tourist, the informed and digitalized "nomad" looks for; it will be complemented by the extremely diverse and pristine nature on one hand and the traditional, as well as culinary heritage on the other. The Festival of Urban Culture Slovenia will set a solid foundation of an attractive and competitive
festival destination and will encourage the creation of a new, recognizable brand that will address tourists looking for dynamic, diverse experiences in safe environment.

The Festival is already
planning new events during autumns and winter-time. Our time has come and we
will make the most out of it.
